Collaborative Efforts Key to Advancing Asanteman – Ashanti Regional Minister
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with all personnel of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to advance the developmental aspirations of Asanteman.
On his first day in office, Dr. Amoakohene engaged with staff across various departments, familiarizing himself with their operations and discussing strategies for collective progress. He emphasized the importance of teamwork in elevating the region’s status and ensuring effective governance.
Highlighting his top priorities, the Minister identified key areas such as youth employment, security, sanitation, illegal mining, and infrastructure development as crucial sectors that require urgent attention. “President John Mahama is deeply invested in the welfare of Asanteman, and he has entrusted me with the responsibility of addressing these pressing issues. By working together, we can make significant strides,” he stated confidently.
Dr. Amoakohene also touched on the state of the abandoned Regional Minister’s official residence and the Presidential Villa, revealing that a specialized team has been commissioned to assess the management of the RCC and devise a comprehensive redevelopment plan for these facilities.
Addressing concerns raised by commuters regarding unauthorized fare hikes by ‘trotro’ drivers, the Minister tasked a team within the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to investigate the matter and take appropriate action to curb exploitative practices.
Committed to accelerating infrastructural growth, Dr. Amoakohene directed all Coordinating Directors within the region to compile and submit detailed reports on stalled government projects in their respective districts and municipalities. This, he believes, will provide a roadmap for prioritizing and completing key initiatives.
Regarding speculations about a possible increase in market tolls, he reassured traders that there are no intentions to raise Kejetia trading fees from GHC 2 to GHC 5, alleviating fears of an additional financial burden on market vendors.
On city planning and decongestion efforts, the Minister emphasized the importance of stakeholder consultations, ensuring that any urban management strategies implemented are inclusive and beneficial to all.
Additionally, Dr. Amoakohene announced a scheduled meeting with the Regional Security Council on Tuesday, February 4, where decisive measures to combat illegal mining will be deliberated and executed effectively.
With a vision centered on collaboration and strategic planning, the Minister remains steadfast in his resolve to drive Asanteman’s development agenda forward.
