Fire Ravages Wooden Structures Near Agbogba-Ritz Junction
A devastating fire tore through a cluster of wooden structures along the Agbogba-Ritz Junction Road in Madina, leaving several businesses and residences in ruins.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly to the scene, facing significant challenges as they worked to contain the fast-moving flames.
GNFS spokesperson Alex King Nartey attributed the rapid spread of the fire to the highly flammable nature of the materials used in the affected structures.
“The area is densely packed with wooden and container structures, which fueled the fire and made containment difficult,” he explained.
At least 12 structures sustained severe damage, but firefighters managed to protect over 50 nearby buildings from destruction. One of the primary obstacles they encountered was the secure nature of the container shops, many of which were reinforced with metal doors and air conditioning units.
The operation was further complicated by the presence of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) poles in the vicinity. Firefighters reported experiencing electric shocks as they battled the flames, adding to the risks involved.
Despite these hurdles, the GNFS successfully brought the fire under control, ensuring it did not spread further. However, investigations are still ongoing to determine the cause of the blaze.
