Hon. Kofi Iddi Adams Threatens to Remove Electoral Commission Officials Over Misconduct
The Member of Parliament for the Buem constituency, Honourable Kofi Iddi Adams, has vowed to remove all Electoral Commission officials who were involved in misconduct during the recently concluded Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
Speaking on Pan African Television’s “TALK TIME” program, Honourable Adams stated that the process of removing these officials will be both lawful and constitutional.
In the interview, hosted by Kwesi Pratt Jnr, the Buem legislator criticized the Electoral Commission, asserting that it could not take credit for the smooth conduct of the elections. He emphasized that it was the vigilance of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that ensured the success of the electoral process.
“It was our vigilance that made the difference,” Honourable Adams stated.
He further claimed that the NDC faced two opponents in the election: the Electoral Commission and the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He accused Dr. Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission in charge of Corporate Services, of showing bias prior to the election by publicly labeling the NDC as an “existential threat” to Ghana’s democracy.
Honourable Adams also alleged that some Electoral Commission officials worked in collusion with the NPP to delay the announcement of the election results, which he claimed was an attempt to manipulate the outcome.
“It was our vigilance that gave us this landslide victory,” he insisted.
The MP for Buem also outlined the NDC’s goal of securing 190 out of the 276 Parliamentary seats in order to secure an absolute majority. Despite this ambitious target, he assured Ghanaians that the NDC would use any resulting majority responsibly.
“Ghanaians can rest assured that this huge majority will be used with responsibility, as they have elected a President and a Party focused on improving the quality of life for all citizens,” Honourable Adams added.
