Majid Michel Hints at Presidential Ambitions: “When I Get Angry Enough, I’ll Run”
Renowned Ghanaian actor and leadership coach Majid Michel has hinted at the possibility of venturing into politics, revealing that frustration with societal issues could drive him to pursue the presidency.
Speaking on Joy Prime on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, Michel shared that his decision to run for office would stem from anger at the country’s persistent challenges. “The truth is, I am not angry yet. Whatever you are angry about is your duty to fix. When you step out of your house and see choked gutters or littered pure water sachets, and it makes you angry, then it’s your responsibility to address it,” he said.
Michel noted that while he isn’t currently at a breaking point, escalating societal issues could push him to take action. “I’m not angry yet because things are not going too badly. But when things start going very bad, and I get very angry, I’ll realize the responsibility is mine.”
Beyond politics, Michel shared his thoughts on fostering growth in Ghana’s movie industry, emphasizing unity and collaboration with Nigeria. He recalled the success of the experimental film Divine Love, which brought together Ghanaian and Nigerian actors to produce a project that strengthened ties between the two industries.
“We did an experimental movie called Divine Love that featured both Ghanaians and Nigerians, and it worked really well. We became stronger,” Michel recounted. He observed that Ghana once played a critical role in supporting Nigeria’s budding film industry. However, over time, Nigeria’s industry outpaced Ghana’s, becoming self-sufficient and more advanced.
“Initially, it was Nigerians who needed our help with movies. After they received it, they built their industry far better than ours, and now they don’t need our help anymore. It’s often about ego. We need to put ego aside and maintain friendships,” Michel urged.
He also stressed the importance of interdependence, stating, “How God created the world is interdependent. You are not an island, and you need help. Regardless of how powerful you think you are, you can never succeed without working in a team.”
Majid Michel is widely known for his roles in the Ghanaian and Nigerian film industries, as well as his work as a humanitarian and evangelist. Over the years, he has earned several nominations for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards, cementing his legacy as one of the most celebrated actors in Africa.
