Mathias Pogba Sentenced in £11m Extortion Case Against Brother Paul Pogba
Mathias Pogba, the older brother of football star Paul Pogba, has been handed a three-year sentence by a Paris court for his role in a £11m ($14m) blackmail scheme targeting the former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder.
The court ruling includes a two-year suspended sentence, meaning the 34-year-old will serve one year under electronic monitoring instead of traditional imprisonment.
The extortion scheme, which surfaced in late 2022, involved Mathias and a group of childhood friends demanding millions from Paul Pogba in exchange for “protection services” allegedly provided over a 13-year period. Paul previously spoke out about the immense pressure he faced, revealing that the ordeal left him considering retirement from football.
The sentencing brings some closure for Paul Pogba, who is working to rebuild his career following a turbulent period. Currently serving a reduced 18-month doping ban, the midfielder is eyeing a return to professional football in March 2025.
As a free agent, Pogba is focused on putting this scandal behind him and securing a contract with a new club.
