No Room for Neutrality in Fixing Wrongs – Prof. Gyampo on GSA Appointment
Professor Ransford Gyampo has expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for appointing him as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA).
His appointment has sparked debate on social media, with some critics suggesting he should maintain neutrality in his new role. Addressing these concerns in a Facebook post, Prof. Gyampo firmly stated:
“There can be no neutrality when one is tasked to help right what is wrong in the service of the NATION. Thank you, President Mahama; and humbled by the many congratulatory texts. I’ll serve GHANA and remain the YAW GYAMPO that you all know.”
Prof. Gyampo, a distinguished academic from the University of Ghana’s Political Science Department, takes over from Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, who was appointed by the Akufo-Addo administration in December 2023.
His appointment was officially confirmed through a letter delivered by Dr. Calistus Mahama, the Executive Secretary to the President. Reports indicate that Mr. Sarpong has been instructed to facilitate a smooth transition, handing over all responsibilities to Prof. Gyampo immediately.
Born on March 31, 1977, in Accra, Prof. Gyampo is well known for his extensive contributions to academia and governance. With over two decades of experience, he has served as a Professor of Political Science and the Founding Director of the Centre for European Studies at the University of Ghana.
As he steps into his new role at the GSA, all eyes will be on how he navigates his responsibilities while staying true to his strong convictions.
