Papa Kwesi Nduom Slams GFA for Misusing FIFA Funds While Neglecting Clubs and Players
Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, owner and financier of Elmina Sharks Football Club, has strongly criticized the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for mismanaging FIFA funds while failing to support clubs, referees, and players.
In a Facebook post on Monday, February 3, 2025, the renowned businessman called for a major restructuring of the GFA, accusing its leadership of benefiting from FIFA’s financial resources while the local football ecosystem suffers.
Expressing his frustration, he questioned why the nation continues to tolerate ongoing financial struggles, mismanagement, and poor performance by the Black Stars.
“The GFA needs a serious overhaul. A few people at the top feed on FIFA money while clubs, referees, and players are left struggling. What are we waiting for? More deaths, bankruptcies, and Black Stars losses?” Nduom wrote.
He further challenged Ghanaians to acknowledge the deteriorating state of domestic football, arguing that local leagues no longer serve as a viable entertainment platform.
“When will Ghanaians recognize that our football leagues no longer qualify as legitimate entertainment?”
Tragic Death of Kotoko Fan Sparks Concerns
Nduom’s comments come in the wake of the tragic death of Francis Yaw Frimpong, a devoted Kumasi Asante Kotoko supporter, popularly known as Nana Pooley.
The fatal incident occurred on Sunday, February 2, 2025, during Kotoko’s Matchday 19 fixture against Nsoatreman FC at the Nana Koromansah II Stadium. Pooley was fatally stabbed in an act of violence at the venue.
In response, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ghana Police Service have launched investigations into the incident. Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko has suspended all football-related activities until justice is served.
This latest act of violence adds to the challenges facing Ghanaian football, which continues to grapple with financial instability, security concerns, and persistent controversies over officiating.
