President Mahama Urges African Leaders to Tackle Corruption and Drive Economic Growth
H. E. President John Dramani Mahama has called on African leaders to intensify the fight against corruption, stressing that it deprives nations of vital resources needed for development.
Speaking at the Presidential Session of the Africa Prosperity Dialogues 2025 in Accra, Mahama underscored the urgency of addressing corruption and instability, emphasizing that economic growth cannot thrive in an environment of conflict and insecurity.
“We must promote peace and security because economic growth is impossible in times of conflict. This is a call to action,” he declared.
He urged leaders to move beyond discussions and translate resolutions into tangible outcomes.
“Africa’s time is now. The decisions we make at this dialogue must not remain mere resolutions—we must act with urgency, determination, and a shared vision for prosperity,” he emphasized.
Mahama also called for greater unity and economic integration, stressing the need to build a self-reliant and globally competitive Africa.
“Let us break down the barriers that divide us and build a continent that is strong, self-sufficient, resilient, and capable of competing on the global stage,” he urged.
Quoting Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, he reminded African leaders of their inherent unity:
“The forces that unite us are intrinsic and greater than the superimposed influences that keep us apart.”
He encouraged leaders to harness these unifying forces to drive economic transformation.
“Let us embrace these forces and chart a new course for Africa’s economic future,” he stated.
Commending the Africa Prosperity Network for organizing the event, Mahama reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to hosting and supporting future editions.
“Ghana is proud to be the home of this crucial dialogue series, and I will continue to support its growth and impact,” he assured.
Describing the conference as a testament to Africa’s collective resolve to unlock its full potential, he stressed the importance of collaboration among political and business leaders, civil society, and academia in advancing the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
Joining the discussions were President Faure Gnassingbé of Togo and President Azali Assoumani of Comoros, who shared their perspectives on Africa’s economic future.
The Africa Prosperity Dialogues, spearheaded by the Africa Prosperity Network, serves as a platform to foster economic integration and prosperity across the continent.
