Sam George Refutes Claims of TESCON Membership During Vetting
Minister-designate for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Sam George, has strongly denied allegations that he was once a member of TESCON while studying at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
During his appearance before the Appointments Committee, the NDC MP dismissed the claim, describing it as an “unfortunate lie.”
The issue arose when Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin referenced intelligence reports from state security, which allegedly indicated that Sam George had been affiliated with TESCON, the student wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In response, the minister-designate flatly rejected the claim.
“This is part of the reason why I’m on record to have said that the new Mahama administration has to overhaul our entire state security apparatus because it’s woefully ineffective if it says I’m a member of TESCON,” he stated.
About TESCON
TESCON (Tertiary Students Confederacy) was established on January 8, 2000, as the student wing of the NPP. It was officially inaugurated by former President John Agyekum Kufuor and has since served as a platform for student engagement in the party’s activities.
Despite the claims from state security, Sam George maintains that he has never been associated with the organization, reinforcing his stance on the need for reforms in the intelligence sector.
